Splashback
A splashback is the vertical surface behind a cooktop, sink or wet area that protects the wall from splashes, steam and grease. It’s also a key visual element in kitchens and laundries. Splashbacks can be in stone, porcelain, tile, glass or metal. They might blend seamlessly with the benchtop or be treated as a feature with colour, pattern or texture. When I design splashbacks, I think about cleaning and practicality as much as aesthetics, and I try to place power points and joins so they don’t visually interrupt the material.
