Building Envelope
The building envelope is essentially the “skin” of your home, the walls, roof, windows, doors and floor that separate inside from outside. A well-designed envelope is crucial for comfort and energy efficiency, especially in Sydney’s hot summers and cool winter nights. We look at insulation, glazing, air tightness and moisture control together rather than in isolation. If the envelope is leaky or poorly insulated, your heating and cooling systems will work much harder than they need to. When I’m planning a renovation or new build, I pay close attention to the envelope: specifying the right R-values for insulation, selecting quality windows and ensuring details are properly documented. A better building envelope usually means a higher NatHERS rating, lower running costs and a much more comfortable home.
