Kitchen Work Triangle
The kitchen work triangle is a classic planning principle that links the three main zones in a kitchen: the fridge (food storage), the sink (prep and cleaning) and the cooktop/oven (cooking). The idea is that these three points should be close enough for efficient movement, without feeling cramped or creating traffic jams. In modern kitchens with more appliances and dedicated “zones”, the triangle is still a useful starting point. When designing, I make sure major circulation paths don’t cut through the triangle and that there’s clear bench space adjacent to each point so the kitchen is practical as well as beautiful.
